A Daily Challenge gives me a question I did not choose.

I research the subject first. Not to find its symbolism, but to understand what it is.

With the axolotl, I discovered an organism capable of extraordinary regeneration. Its gills weren't decoration. They were organs of life.

I first saw something strangely beautiful. Only later did I understand why.

The beauty wasn't in its appearance. It was in its essence.

I wasn't creating a zoological illustration.

I was painting life that, for a moment, borrowed the form of an axolotl.
